I’m Aubrey Stroub and I’m a Licensed Social Worker. In recognizing that the experience of living includes the experience of suffering, that suffering is difficult to get through, and sometimes we need help through it, my job is to help people process through adversity and overcome hardship by working collaboratively.
My approach
Healing can happen in a variety of ways and my first goal is to establish a therapeutic relationship where sensitive information can be exchanged. I want to provide an environment where individuals feel safe and understood. Once we have established a trusting relationship and a mutual understanding of the issue that brings someone into therapy, we explore possible solutions and decide collaboratively on treatment goals.
My focus
My career has been spent in medical settings (hospitals, home health care facilities, oncology facilities, and hospice facilities), supporting individuals adjusting to medical diagnoses along with assisting those with psychological distress. The experience gained in these settings has helped me develop a deeper understanding of how painful the human experience can be and how resilient human beings are. It has also refined my therapeutic skills to treat depression, anxiety, and trauma. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, and Strengths Theory.
My communication style
In every encounter, I hope to provide a welcoming atmosphere where curiosity and compassion drive exploration into specific problems. I want to offer a safe and honest place where we can examine difficult problems and receive support in implementing solutions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became interested in social work while volunteering with a local hospice agency. I started to understand that life is full of adversity and that life can be short, and it compelled me to think about the importance of living my life fully. Having the opportunity to help others during a difficult time helps me better understand the human condition, helps me better understand myself, and provides a rich experience to connect with others in a deep and meaningful way. Therapy is personal, not just to the client, but also to me.
My goals for you
Improving an individual’s quality of life is the goal of therapy. Setting specific goals with clients helps define what we will be working toward and will allow us to measure progress. Within the first meeting, the client and I will identify what parts of life need or desire change and we will discuss possible intervention strategies (therapies) that fit the issue. We will review goals and interventions throughout our work together with the hope of maximizing the benefits of therapy.
My first session with you
During the first visit, individuals will be asked to explain the circumstances that brought them to therapy and will be encouraged to ask questions and explore concerns. We will identify treatment goals, explore possible intervention strategies, and assess if the client-therapist relationship meets the client’s expectations.
