My name is Jennifer Kemp. I am an LMFT 112316. I believe there is hope for all people. My approach to therapy stems from this belief. There are always different ways to perceive ourselves. I like to focus on strengths.
My approach
I am a fan of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. They are different approaches, but they help clients understand and see themselves by using new strategies.
My focus
I am comfortable treating anxiety because I have it. I know that it is often accompanied by depression, so I am comfortable treating that as well. I will treat what clients present with in session. I am comfortable treating anyone. I like to work in a collaborative way with clients.
My communication style
I think I am approachable. I am interested in every client's story. I think life is short and it's smart to meet with someone who can see clients objectively. I like to hear people's backstories because their upbringing usually provides answers about their current challenges.
My journey to mental healthcare
I worked in the entertainment industry right out of college. It is an interesting business that is good at taking a lot from employees. I made a different choice in my mid-30s. I chose to get my master's degree in Psychology so I could help others. I am pleased that I made that decision. I am happier.
My goals for you
Goals should come from the client. I always ask what a client would like to accomplish in therapy. My approach with clients will stem from what they want to achieve.
My first session with you
I am easy to talk to and I love this life. I want to help. It is why I pursued work as a therapist. I enjoy each client because each person's story and challenges are unique. ask a lot of questions to get a well-rounded sense of the client.
