Richard Mauterer LMFT 90576. As a therapist I focus on what's happening here and now that brought you into therapy. As we explore your immediate concerns, we are often drawn into the deeper meanings and originations that become knowable. Through the therapeutic relationship, healing can be accessed and processed in a safe respectful, non-pathologizing way.
My approach
I believe everyone already has their own answers, although sometimes we get cut off from this wisdom by trauma, pain and suffering, and distraction. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ACT Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy, and also bring in various wisdom and spiritual traditions as appropriate.
My focus
I've spent the last ten years working in a Crisis Stabilization Unit. This has given me the opportunity to work directly with serious mental illness and made me comfortable with almost anything and everyone. I work well with Anxiety, Depression, Grief and Loss, Divorce, and Custody Issues as well as dealing with a friend or family member who may be experiencing a sudden serious mental illness.
My communication style
I am very transparent and provide plenty of psycho-education. I like to have an ongoing conversation that grows from week to week as our relationship deepens and trust and safety emerge. I've been told talking to me is like having some wise friend you can ask anything.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was going through a very hard time about ten years ago when suddenly everything shifted for me. I saw my suffering as a gateway into the parts of myself that I would not have seen were it not for the pain I was feeling. That is when I realized our suffering is the path to our healing. I realized I could be helpful to my fellow humans and went back to school to study counseling psychology, got my degree, and have been practicing for ten years.
My goals for you
Collaborative! We set goals together. That being said, the goal is always to find things in your subconscious mind that are driving behaviors you'd like to change and bring those things into the light of consciousness so that healthier decisions can be made going forward.
My first session with you
Asking for help and starting therapy can be anxiety-provoking! Let's get right into that and see how we can get comfortable talking to each other! I will of course have some questions.
