My name is Terri Graves, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I am a traditional talk therapist and learned some helpful things, but if you are looking for something different, we work together for something in therapy that will work for you.
My approach
My training is in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing (EMDR), which will allow us to find the tools for your toolbox and work on a start for your new healing process.
My focus
As a therapist, I view my job as working alongside my clients, never pushing them into a place they are not ready to observe, sitting with them through all the tough times, and cherishing all the successes of therapy.
My communication style
I have been known to have a calming speech pattern. In my therapy environment, I work with empathy and compassion.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am passionate about my education and learning what I need to help my clients. I received my bachelor's in psychology from Holy Names University in Oakland, CA., and a master's in counseling psychology from John F Kennedy University in Pleasant Hil, CA, focusing on Marriage and Family Therapy.
My goals for you
My approach for setting goals with clients is to listen to the client and work together on setting goals that will work with the client and help the client to succeed in their therapy journey.
My first session with you
Help clients feel welcome, comfortable, and safe, Ch over informed consent to counseling, role induction, discuss expectations, the pros/cons of any previous therapy experience and may inform how we work together now, start building the alliance and help them see if I am a good fit, hear their story so they feel understood and validated, and continue doing so until their session are successful.
