My name is Barbara Davis. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I enjoy empowering people to find the power within to heal, change thinking, and become the best version of themself. I love creative expression and use it as a tool in therapy. I have worked with children and parents to help them understand why behaviors happen and help the children learn coping skills to reduce or alleviate negative behaviors.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to meet the client where they are. I use person-centered, psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy, Art, Solution Focused approaches.
My focus
I have worked with children and adults. Persons who might be experiencing anxiety and/or depression, struggling with interpersonal and social skills, relational skills, codependency, and trauma. I enjoy working with women and men who have lived a hard life and lack self-worth or esteem to lift them up and help them develop confidence in themselves.
My communication style
A soft even tone is helpful in creating a safe space where rapport can be built. I do my very best to be non-judgmental. I believe this to be crucial with working with clients who have substance use history. I want clients to feel I care about helping them meet their goals in therapy. It’s not just a job.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a helper by nature. My own life experiences led me to the desire to help others overcome adversity. What often happens in therapy is as I work alongside the client, I am also learning from them.
My goals for you
I explain that goals are about them and what they feel they need to work on. They do not have to be complicated and must be attainable.
My first session with you
Clients can expect me to introduce myself, explain the process of therapy, importance of insurance and copays, boundaries, limitations to confidentiality, expectations, and the importance of building rapport.
