My name is Dr. Valene Gresham and I am a psychologist. I have a doctorate degree in clinical and forensic psychology. I also have a master's degree in marriage and family therapy. I specialize in individual and couples therapy for clients ages 18 and up.
My approach
My most commonly used theoretical approaches are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Brief Solutions Focused.
My focus
I specialize in anxiety and depression management, self-esteem and confidence building, life coaching, relationship issues, major life transitions, couples therapy, student support, and trauma in all ages. Also, I have several years of experience working with specialized groups such as police officers and government officials. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 10 years and I have held positions in various hospitals, clinics, government organizations in the United States and abroad.
My communication style
I strive to create a non-judgemental environment where you can feel safe to express yourself while also pushing past the barriers that may be holding you back.
My journey to mental healthcare
From age 16, I always knew I wanted to be a therapist. I was very attracted to the concept of the narratives that we tell ourselves and the narratives that others have about us. Helping people learn to retell the stories of who they are by correcting negative beliefs we have about ourselves is a big part of my life's work and I love it.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative endeavor. The therapist/client should regularly assess if the goals are still achievable and adjust along the journey.
My first session with you
First sessions can feel daunting. Some clients may feel guarded while others may feel more comfortable telling their entire life story. No matter which you might be, my hope is that each client will walk away from their first session feeling a little lighter and a bit more refreshed.
