Hi, I'm Luis, a therapist (LMFT) who has been in the field for 15 years. I've worked in several settings helping children, adults, and older adult clients develop healthy coping skills to manage emotional distress and improve or return to their typical function. I also have extensive experience facilitating adult group therapy sessions focused on stabilization and development of coping skills. In addition, I have experience supporting clients living with depression and anxiety through individual therapy sessions.
My approach
During my time as a therapist, I've developed attunement skills to help me truly see my clients. I've found that this approach leads to clients feeling supported and understood. In addition, I consistently use empathy and validation while helping clients process difficult emotions and experiences. I take a very open and non-judgmental approach to all situations, cultures, experiences, thoughts, and beliefs. Clients find that I'm a genuine provider who can be as human as them. In general, I use an Integrative approach when it comes to interventions. For example, I use DBT, CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, and ACT interventions in sessions.
My focus
Congratulations on taking the necessary steps towards finding help. It is my hope that during your time in therapy, you will learn and practice new ways to manage overwhelming emotions so that you can return to your life. I have experience working with a variety of clients who experience emotional distress due to life stressors. Currently, I am only seeing adults and older adults.
My communication style
While in session with me you will find that I am genuine, empathetic, and validating. I will create a safe relaxing environment where you will feel supported and heard.
My journey to mental healthcare
Providing support to others has always been easy for me, growing up I remember being able to sit with a person to just listen, to provide empathy. When I discovered I use this skill to help many it was an easy decision to become a therapist.
My goals for you
As part of treatment, we will collaborate in developing measurable goals to help you return to your typical level of function.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will take time to learn more about each other. I'll ask specific questions about your current symptoms, stressors, and triggers in order to understand how to support you through this challenging time. As we progress in treatment, we will explore coping skills to manage symptoms as well as process through verbal expression.
