Hi there, I'm Carrie!

Welcome! My name is Carrie Poulson. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW 99742), Past-life Regression specialist, and Certified Expressive Art Therapist. I am gentle, patient, understanding, and easygoing. I am the oldest of 11 and have five grown children of my own. I was born into conservative religion but have since decided that it is not for me. I consider myself very motherly as the oldest of 11 children and am currently the grandmother of 12. I have a history of working with foster and at-risk children and others in the system who have experienced trauma. I've also worked with women and identify as bisexual.

My approach

I have a trauma history of my own, and as such, am very understanding and non-judgmental. I start where a person is at and walk beside them as they learn to navigate their lives (Rogerian). I am big on helping people come to understand themselves on a deeper level, navigate Co-Dependency, and low self-esteem. I know the path out as I used to be there myself. I love the process and feel that I am in the zone as I work with others. In my personal life, I enjoy the beach, the forest, art, ceramics, gardening, composting, camping, and being in nature.

My focus

I typically work with women and groups. I enjoy the life-changing experience of group work and also have my own private practice where I run groups and workshops. My groups often use the arts and past-life regression as means of life-changing and a road to greater self-understanding. I feel that I am in the zone of working with women toward greater self-acceptance and self-love. We are living in a previously male-dominated, and patriarchal society that has come to undervalue women. I like effecting change in this area; through empowering women to be assertive.

My communication style

I walk beside my clients and try not to press or push but allow the unfolding to happen in the order it was meant to happen. I consider myself a guide, shining light, and mentor. I will be your mirror as you learn to see the amazing and wonderful parts of yourself that you didn't see before; as you were not told the truth about who you really are. I will help you admit you have strengths and talents you may not have seen but are definitely a part of you and are dying to be known. You may have even suffered depression due to the suppression of your true self.

My journey to mental healthcare

I grew up Mormon. I was the oldest of 11 children in a very conservative, religious and dysfunctional family that was trying to appear to be perfect. I was taught Right wing conservatism, purity culture, and other ideals that, through education, I came to understand, were just one opinion. I have since become, what I would consider, a moderate person, with feminist ideology, and liberal values and understand that, in a World of persons, there are a wide variety of ideologies. I have looked more critically at life, values, and morals and have come to be a VERY UNDERSTANDING person, willing to look at myself and others with objectivity and love. I believe we may have lived in other lifetimes, and that regression to them (or in this one; through hypnosis) can unloose the heavy burdens. Our personalities are very deep and complex. Also, through epigenetics, the unlived hopes, dreams and fears of our ancestors are inside of us. However, we are also very valuable and wise. As human beings we have incalculable worth; as evidenced by the Baby Jessica Story and the 13 Thailand boys. The World spares no expense when it comes to rescuing one human being. I will teach these things to you, if you want to learn.

My goals for you

I will ask you, "What are your goals for therapy?" As people usually have these; and we work from there. If you are unsure as to where you want to start; I will help you discover that place. Many of my clients are struggling with self-esteem/ self-worth. Through psychoeducation, hypnosis and past-life regression they usually begin enjoying a happier, more enjoyable, and fulfilled life.

My first session with you

Expect a TON of questions. I want to know everything about who you are, where you have come from, your family of origin, and your personality. I believe you may have lived other lifetimes and this is influencing who you are. I ask these questions so I don't cross any boundaries, offend, or do any harm while getting to know you. The more I know about you, the bigger picture I see, the easier and quicker it will be to get to the true issues and solve traumas.
