I have been conducting therapy since 2017, working in various settings. My background and training began with treating issues related to trauma. I have experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children ranging in issues from depression, bipolar-related issues, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, issues relating to schizophrenia, interpersonal conflict, and most recently issues related to the ongoing pandemic and the many challenges it has brought.
My approach
I work from a client-centered, trauma-informed approach, meaning I want to focus the session on where you are at, focus on what you want to focus on and guide the session based on your individual needs. I keep in mind the impact trauma has had in your life whether current or past; while also respecting your cultural values as this is an important piece of who you are. I recently have gotten certified in Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
My focus
I am willing to see individuals and have experience working with issues including panic attacks, substance use, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety.
My communication style
I know therapy can be a scary, vulnerable place for a lot of people, but the fact you are reading this bio means you have taken the first step, the first step toward healing. I believe people can recover, no matter how big, scary, or overwhelming the issue is, there is always room for growth and improvement if you are willing to do the work.
My journey to mental healthcare
I began accruing clinical hours in 2016 at California State University Long Beach with William Saltzman. I continued at the Long Beach Trauma Center with Debra Luken and Bita Ghafori. I also worked at Mental Health America in Long Beach with Francine Way and Eugeine E. Justin Dupee. I finished my hours in 2020.
My goals for you
My hope is to help you identify what it is that you value, and what you want your life to look like, and together, find the tools you need to get you there. Our past can influence our present and our future; however, it doesn't have to determine it. Though it is important to acknowledge our past, we don't always have to focus on it in order to find the change we are looking for.
My first session with you
In our first session, I aim to get to know you, understand what brings you to therapy, and start identifying your goals. I look forward to starting this journey with you and helping you find the tools to get through the challenges you are facing.
