Hi there, I'm Ruya!

I am Ruya Urso, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering supportive, strength-based therapy to adults and families. I have over 10 years of experience in therapeutic work with a broad spectrum of clients.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is integrative and I utilize many different treatment modalities and treatment techniques depending on the client's needs.

My focus

I typically work with adult clients, although I have extensive experience with children, adolescents. Among my areas of experience are anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, women's issues, infertility, personal growth and self-esteem, grief &loss, stress, life transitions, general relationship challenges (family, friends, co-workers), and family problems.

My communication style

I believe that my clients have an innate potential for growth and with guidance and support they can persevere through difficult times. I believe in empathy, compassion, and collaboration in order for real change to happen. Therapy can help us develop the appropriate skills to cope with the challenges of life and a strong therapeutic alliance is vital to achieving the necessary progress in therapy.

My goals for you

I believe that helping clients develop coping skills and make the changes they need to live a more fulfilling and productive life is the key to setting the appropriate goals for progress in therapy.

My first session with you

In the first session, I like concentrating on starting to figure out what brought the client to therapy in their own words and beginning to build rapport for a strong therapeutic alliance. Through some intake questions, clients will be able to give general information about themselves and ask the questions that are on their minds. Clients will also learn about Informed consent, and practice policies, including cancellation and communication procedures as well as confidentiality in the first session. Additionally, clients will learn what to expect and how we would be approaching their problems.
