Hi, I'm Kristi Abbott! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from California who has been practicing for 16 years. I received my BA in Psychology from UC Davis and my Master of Social Work from San Diego State University. I treat adults with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief & loss, life transitions & changes, and stress. I am also trained in providing psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and can provide therapy that focuses on processing and integrating those experiences for long-lasting healing.
My approach
I believe the most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic alliance between myself and the clients I see. I don't believe in a "one-size fits all" approach to therapy so I tailor the treatment approach to the specific client. Some clients prefer process-oriented therapy while others prefer skill acquisition. I also utilize an array of treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, IFS, and Mindfulness which allows me to best meet the needs of each individual client.
My focus
I love working with adults who are adjusting to the many changes that life throws our way. We all go through times in our lives when we experience relationship trouble, job stress/loss, or family conflict. We all go through transitions such as graduating college, changing careers, or becoming a parent. I enjoy being able to help people navigate these times and come through stronger than ever. I am particularly passionate about working with women and the unique experiences and life challenges women experience.
My communication style
I am a warm, non-judgmental, empathetic person who is committed to meeting you where you are and helping you on your healing journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
I knew at an early age that I wanted to be in the helping profession. I am fascinated by human thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and knew I could make a difference in people's lives by pursuing therapy as a profession.
My goals for you
I worked collaboratively with each client to set goals. We may have goals around symptom reduction or we may have goals around skill acquisition or both. I tailor the goals to each individual and their unique needs and wants.
My first session with you
I will spend some time getting to know you - I will hear about what has brought you to therapy, what your goals for therapy are, and what are the most pressing issues and symptoms you would like to address. You will have time to ask me any questions you have and we will review what doing therapy together will look like.
