Hello, my name is Liana McCoy and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I believe in building a strong foundation with my client to promote trust and rapport and setting clinical goals and expectations for better outcomes. I believe in a client-centered approach moving forward. My experience includes but is not limited to geriatrics, medical social work, Forensic social work, outpatient mental health, adolescence, and wellness. I am also very involved in animal advocacy and rescue on a more personal note.
My approach
I tend to be client-centered and utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to promote insight and awareness. “Start where the client is” remains ingrained in my mind as a student of Social Work many years ago. I believe that the presenting problem dictates the course of therapy and that several modalities of treatment can be helpful in one case.
My focus
I’m passionate about women’s issues, specifically, post partum and family issues that require a radical transition. Also, I have spent many years as a medical social worker, which gives me a solid foundation in treating chronic pain and terminal illness.
My communication style
I believe that we are all human first and that it lends itself to a less formal style of engagement. I tend to use humor as an ice breaker and hope that clients can leave sessions feeling hopeful and understood.
My journey to mental healthcare
I’m nurturing by nature, and have always envisioned myself as an agent of change. What’s more, Social Work offers so many options in terms of work settings and varied populations.
My goals for you
I see goal setting as a mutual process in which the client learns to assert needs and identify issues that are problematic. Goals are to be flexible and assessed on an ongoing basis for change.
My first session with you
The first session includes the rapport-building process as well as information gathering.
