Hi, I'm Shawn McLendon, LCSW. My approach to therapy is eclectic in that we are all unique individuals with unique needs. I have been successful in assisting individuals manage anxiety and stress, depression, and lack of motivation and increase their satisfaction in their life course.
My approach
I have an Eclectic approach. I utilize CBT, DBT, and Psychodynamic Theory along with various other theories to enable me to tailor services to the Client's specific needs, responses, and preferences. Helping Clients to increase their awareness of "individuals in environments" and "healthy relationships with self" has proven to be very effective with a wide variety of Clients.
My focus
I have had success in assisting Cl in overcoming depression, minimizing anxiety, increasing motivation, and dealing with loss. I have helped individuals find their desired purpose in life, overcome procrastination, and increase their awareness of self and others.
My communication style
I am a direct communicator and the tone I strive to set is that of empowerment of self and belief in one's strengths. I feel Clients' ability to express their own needs is what allows me to assist them. This is an open environment of exploration and discovery.
My journey to mental healthcare
In studying my Undergraduate work, Psychology most interested me because it was a study of human nature and needs as well as a study of myself. I do love the sciences, and psychology is a study of us. I chose a psychology major because of the personal, as well as intellectual benefits of the subject.
My goals for you
I feel working cooperatively with Clients to establish the goals they feel will best guide their life course from where they currently are is most rewarding and stable.
My first session with you
Clients can expect me to use active listening to gain perspective on their life story, personal environment, and current struggles in order to be able to provide real benefits during the following sessions.
