My name is Monica Flores and I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I utilize an integrative approach of several evidenced-based practices to help clients cope and manage anxiety, stress, life changes, adjustments, and depression.
My approach
I use an integrative approach. I implement tools, techniques, and interventions from different evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialect Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Mindfulness. I use different techniques that best meet your individualized needs and goals. I am also a client-centered therapist, meaning that I am aware that you are the expert on your life, therefore I will be a facilitator assisting you along the way.
My focus
I enjoy working with the Hispanic, Latinx, and young adult populations who are struggling with anxiety, every day-to-day stress, adjustment, life changes, and depression. I use encouragement, motivation, support, and guidance to help you reach your treatment goals.
My communication style
I strive to provide a safe therapeutic environment, where sessions feel casual and relaxed. I consider myself to be part of the new wave of therapists. I want to guide you, support you, motivate you, and encourage you. I have the license to conduct therapy, but you are the only expert when it comes to your life. I will meet you where you are emotionally in our session. I will guide you along the way in a non-directive approach.
My journey to mental healthcare
I feel like everyone writes “I always knew I wanted to become a therapist”, but my story is a little different. When I graduated high school I had an interview for the forensic department at my local college. I wanted to be out on the field, solving mysteries, being a detective, or so I thought. After I left the interview, I started questioning “Is this really what I want to do?”. A few weeks after, I ran into one of my favorite high school teachers, she began asking about college and careers, and I told her that I was struggling to make up my mind on what career I wanted. She then said, “What about psychology, to be a therapist?”. She went on to highlight why she believed that I could be a therapist, so the spark and the curiosity began. I began reading more into it, and the more I read, the more I fell in love with it. I then decided to apply for my undergrad in Psychology, and the rest is history. I’m so glad I did because I get to be your therapist!
My goals for you
We will work together to make sure that your treatment goals are tailored specifically to you and your individualized needs.
My first session with you
During our first session you will be able to tell me more about you and your current struggles, the reason you are seeking services. We will also discuss and create your individualized treatment goals. This is the time where you get to ask questions too, to make sure I’m the right fit for you!
