My name is Wendy Weise, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Tucson, AZ and provide telehealth throughout the state. I've worked as a therapist for 8 years now, specializing in adults from 18 through mature adulthood. When I'm not in the office, I spend time with my husband and two dogs, love to read and to travel, and enjoy cooking as my mindfulness practice.
My approach
I often use an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing on skill sets tailored to your needs, which may change as you progress through therapy and as life happens! Together we can explore patterns of behavior or thinking that may be holding you back or causing emotional pain. I can also help you better understand how your past might be informing your present and develop greater sense of self and self-compassion. And we can work on practical strategies for improving your quality of life.
My focus
I enjoy working with people looking to find answers to current stressors, working on depression, or anxiety, past trauma, or who are facing issues that develop with age. If you’re feeling stuck, stressed, worried about the world – or at a crossroads between staying where you’re at or building a happier life, I’d love to work with you! As a former university professor, I also enjoy students, staff, and faculty as clients. I have a special affinity for working with cancer patients and caregivers, especially from a holistic approach--healing mind, body, and spirit.
My communication style
Past clients have said they felt safe, respected, and heard, motivated to make the changes they were seeking. It’d be my honor to develop the same supportive experience for you, as you work through stress, grief, life transitions, whatever is holding you back in life.
My journey to mental healthcare
Prior to working as a therapist, I served 9 years as a paraprofessional counselor in the community and an additional 10 years as an academic (professor, lecturer, administrator). While at the university, I worked with a number of nontraditional students at branch campuses in Tucson. They often needed greater instructional but also emotional support, encouragement, and problem-solving. This eventually evolved into my journey to become a therapist!
My first session with you
Connection is an important part of therapy. Our first sessions will focus on getting to know each other, while we explore what's happening in your life and what your immediate and long-term goals are. We'll then create a plan together for how to get there.
