Hi! My name is Shawna Kuhl and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am based out of Phoenix, AZ and practice Telehealth. I specialize in Trauma. I firmly believe in treating the whole person, mind/body/spirit. I am genuine, empathetic and compassionate.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. However, a few of the techniques I use most often with adults are Motivational Interviewing, Client Centered and Strength Based approaches. A few of my specialities are trauma, PTSD, mood disorders and depression.
My focus
I typically see clients who have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, various mood disorders, psychosis, and eating disorders.
My communication style
My communication style is genuine, compassionate and empathetic. I want my clients to feel comfortable and safe talking with me about anything. I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because I have always enjoyed helping people. Whether it was volunteering in my community or church, or helping out at the local nursing homes; I have always naturally been drawn to helping people through difficult times. I enjoy seeing individuals become the best versions of themselves.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with you is about working together to define what the you want to accomplish in our time together. This starts by building trust between the therapist and the client, and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Then, we will work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
During the first session I like to learn a lot about you and what you are currently experiencing and feeling. I will ask you briefly about your past and some demographic questions. We will begin our initial connection and start establishing rapport. The initial session will guide me on where to go from there.
