Hello, I am Sharon Thomsen, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Coming to Therapy is one of the first steps you can take towards making positive changes you would like to experience. Together, we will work on reaching the Goals you set for yourself. One of the prespectives that informs my work is, "If you change nothing, nothing changes!"
My approach
My approach is that there is not just one approach or modality in working with someone. My approach is that I customize my work to fit what helps my clients most. So this means I often use a combination of theories and approaches.
My focus
I specialize in areas of Domestic Violence, Depression, Anxiety, Anger, Families in Crisis, Relationship challenges, Trauma, Grief & Loss, LGBT, and more. I utilize several different types of healing modalities to aid you in achieving your Goals!
My communication style
I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and open presence. I connect with you from a strengths-based perspective. In my work I have found that I help you best when I don't tell you what you want to hear, but instead I tell you what is needed to hear from your expansion, growth and achieving your goals and I do this in a compassionate, coaching style.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a Therapist because of life challenges that I have experienced and how Therapy helped me in my own life. Being able to part of someone's healing journey to their discovering a truer version of who they really are, is motivating and very fulfulling for me. When the "light bulb" goes off and someone understands something about themselves, or a situation, or tool, how to use it and that it works, is just awesome to be part of.
My goals for you
Collaboratively we will work on setting your goals together. This will lead us in the direction of learning new strategies and skills to help you to feel empowered, discover who you are and how to experience more of what you would like, versus what may be familiar. I am looking forward to helping you in your journey to uncovering the positive, empowered, resilient, happier and healthier you that is waiting to be discovered.
My first session with you
In the first session I will go over some information that I feel is important for you to know. Then I will explore more about you, what you have been experiencing and what you want to experience differently in your life.
