Hi there, I'm Kendra!

Hi there, I’m Kendra Metcalf and I am a Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) currently licensed in Arkansas and working with clients locally at my private practice and statewide via telehealth. I have worked with clients of all ages in many different settings including school-based, outpatient community mental health, private practice, and therapeutic communities. Therapy to me is about helping individuals overcome challenges in life whether it's anxiety, stress, depression, work-related issues, relationship struggles, parenting issues, career challenges, or some other stumbling block that is thrown their way in life.

My approach

My approach to therapy is Person-centered with the use of other modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy. This approach allows me to build a genuine relationship with my clients based on trust, acceptance, and understanding. I offer my clients empathy and guidance as you work on personal growth and change.

My focus

I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for all different populations. I have worked with adults, teens, and children. I work to help my clients transition through challenging times in life and assist them in building skills, confidence, and self-awareness to allow them to develop a more positive outlook on life. This approach has worked well with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviors, behavioral issues, relationship issues, and clients with severe mental health disorders such as bipolar 1 or 2.

My communication style

My communication style is about listening without judgment, being genuine and humorous with the client so they feel comfortable to share more about their reasons for seeking therapy, and personable with empathy and understanding.

My journey to mental healthcare

I decided to become a therapist because I enjoyed the work I was doing as a volunteer advocate at our local pregnancy help center. Through this work, I was able to teach first-time mothers prenatal and parenting classes, partner with them, and help them develop skills needed to prepare for motherhood. I also have a teaching background, so I have always loved teaching people and enjoy helping others learn skills or about themselves.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together as a team to define and develop short- and long-term goals that you want to accomplish during our time together. During this time as you work toward accomplishing these goals, I want you to be able to learn skills needed to make life more manageable.

My first session with you

During our first session, we will begin to build rapport through engaging in conversations about your mental health history, family history and dynamics, and life's current stressors. This happens through trust build, and gaining insight into what led you to seek therapy. We will begin to formulate specific, measurable, achievable, reasonable, and time-sensitive goals together that you can begin to work on from day one.
