My name is Lesa Kilpatrick and I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker in Arkansas. I have been practicing for 11 years. I work with clients who have trauma but also anxiety and depression using Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
My approach
My approach to therapy is Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy; I specialize in trauma therapy. I have had extensive training learning about post-traumatic stress disorder. However, I enjoy going over coping skills, thought distraction, relaxation techniques, positive communication skills, and problem-solving skills with clients.
My focus
I am excited to work with motivated young adults and adults with symptoms of anxiety, depression, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bipolar who want to make changes in their lives.
My communication style
I like to create a quiet and calming environment for my clients. I want them to be relaxed so that they can focus on our work together. I typically dim the lights and ask my clients if they would like to listen to soft music during our sessions. I also try to minimize distractions in the background.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist after dealing with my daughter's mental illness. I learned so much by being on the opposite side of the desk, such as how easy it is to have empathy and compassion for clients and family members. I feel like this is my calling and I cannot see myself doing anything else. I enjoy going to work, empowering clients to work through their problems, and everyone deserves to live in the least restrictive environment.
My goals for you
I will start where the client is and together, we will decide what the goals should be and the length of time to accomplish such goals. We will find solutions to the client's problems and implement such solutions in the treatment plan. I like the clients doing symptom inventories to have a baseline and doing inventories along the way so the clients can witness progress.
My first session with you
The most important thing the clients should expect is for me to build rapport with them. I will ask questions and get to know the client during the intake. I want the clients to make sure that I am a good fit for what they want out of a therapist. I offer honesty and I care.
