Hey, my name is Amanda and I am married with 5 children. I am glad to introduce myself and help you on your journey to become the best version of yourself. I enjoy my job as a therapist because I believe that helping people is my calling. I look forward to meeting you.
My approach
My therapeutic approach encompasses different approaches that meet the clients' needs, but my major approach is Rogerian Therapy, also known as person-centered therapy. This allows the client to lead the session with what they feel needs to be processed at that time.
My focus
I really enjoy working with a wide variety of clients from small children, teens, parents with small children, and adults. I have been working with all populations in my past practice and enjoy the variety.
My communication style
I believe in creating a safe space for clients to be able to express themselves in sessions. I use a warm and inviting tone along with positive encouragement and reinforcement to assist in the client's journey to better mental health.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey as a therapist has been an enlightening one as I started out wanting to be a therapist who works with children and teens, but through studying trauma I decided to take a different path. I have recently been focused on working with trauma clients and how it has affected them. I took an infant mental health post-graduate degree to help better understand where we experience our trauma, and how it shapes us as we grow into adulthood. It was very eye-opening for me.
My goals for you
We process goals together in the first intake and we work on how we are going to achieve the goals you set. I encourage my clients to set obtainable goals and as they obtain those goals, set new ones until you get to the desired top goal.
My first session with you
You should expect me to sit and listen to what you have to say. I feel like listening is an important skill, and I may ask questions to get a better understanding of what you are saying. Mostly, I will let you talk to let me know why you are seeking therapy.
