Hi, I am Ray and so nice to meet you. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and have practiced since 2005 after having come from a educational career of 28 years. I am licensed in Alaska, Missouri and Maine
My approach
My approach to Therapy is team focused. I see my role as a therapist to be a partner, to help the client help themselves by focusing on the "team" approach an not necessarily the instructor role, but always be available for feedback annd support
My focus
I work with a wide variety of clients ranging in ages from teens to older adults. I also work with military, veterans, and first responders. Although I am not a licensed MFT, I have had a lot of couples therapy exposure over the years. I take each client one at a time, and make sure the client is satisfied before we begin
My communication style
My communication style is simple, in the fact that it is open and honest. I believe that counseling is just an extension of who I am and communiucatioin is the key. I believe in cooperative communication based on respect and trust
My journey to mental healthcare
I was a special educcation teacher in rural Alaska, and already had a M.Ed in counseling education. In 2005 Alaska adopted state licensure so I became #36 ad an Licensed Profesional Counselor (LPC). I think what drices me is the challenge, and the reward of helping other people through some pretty tough times. It is what I do.
My goals for you
Goal setting is extremely important but when talking or setting goals, both the therapist and the client must see the goals as worthwhile and attainable. With my clients, we talk about goals in many ways, personal, social, professional, etc. We never want to tavk on on too many goals, unless there is a measure of suuccess, achievement.
My first session with you
I have my first session as mostly relationship building, for each of us to get to knowe s little more about the other, to begin the theraputic relationship in such a way to beging the journey toward a trusting, open therapist/client interaction
